The first-generation ASX was released in the Japanese market in 2010 as the Mitsubishi RVR, and is still currently marketed under said name. However, this is only used in Japan, South Korea and Canada. It is also known as the Mitsubishi Outlander Sports but sold as the ASX in most markets.
The Mitsubishi ASX (ASX meaning Active Sports Crossover) is a subcompact SUV manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors in Japan. On introduction, the ASX was positioned below the Outlander in Mitsubishi’s SUV line-up. This was until the Eclipse Cross was introduced in 2017, filling the gap between the Outlander and ASX. It was built on a chassis that is closely shared with the Lancer and Outlander.
Although there is only currently the first generation ASX/RVR on the market, there have been three facelifts with the first being released in 2012 and the most recent unveiled in 2019; becoming the 2020 Mitsubishi ASX model.
